1. Analyze the situation
2. Is there a need for organizing a training program for all the union members to aim at objectives?
3. If you were Mr.Raman, how would you handle the situation?
1.
The situation shows a workaholic manager who is driven entirely by his work and work objectives. He does not appreciate lack of sincerity in his employees and when he found out that one of his employees was regularly being absent from work, he fired him.
The worker, being a union member pleaded for negotiation but was denied by the management. Upon demanding an apology, the union declined the offer in return.
2.
Yes.
It is important to organize a training session for all union members so as to make them more sincere and aligned to the company objectives, so as to be able to get maximum output production from them and thus reduce scope of conflicts between the union members and the management.
3.
Had I been in place of Mr. Raman, I would first have a one to one discussion with the worker and understand the reasons for his absence and make him understand the seriousness of the workplace. Then analyze his performance post the discussion. If the performance does not improve, then issue warnings to him over a period of time. In case still performance does not improve, then fire him. This will help reduce union backlash
