Simplify (5.38E-5 kg)(0.00352 N/kg)2 giving the answer in scientific E-notation with the correct number of significant digits.

Solutions

Expert Solution

First of all we can look upon the scientific notation E. This notation is used to express a number E=10 to the power ie,

If E5=10×10^5 and here in this question 5.38 E-5 means 5.38×10^-5.

Then we have to simplify these and the solution shown below as an image

Then we can move on to the rules of significant digits or figures.

The numbers which are significant

  • All non-zero digits
  • Zero's between non -zero numbers
  • Zero's at the end of number's with decimal point (14.000 -all are significant digits )

The numbers which are not significant

  • Zero's infront of non -zero digits (0.0014-only 2 significant digits 1 and 4 & 13×10^-12 -only 2 significant digits 1 and 3)
  • Zero's at the end of numbers without decimal point (15000-only two significant digits 1 and 5 only)

So here the value is 6.62E-10 is equivalent to 6.62×10^-10 . Then it's significant figures or digits are 3( ie only 66&2)

Hope you ok with this and thank you
