In fourth millenium BCE the people of southern Mesopotamia were knopwn as sumerians.Their name was originated from a country named Sumer in southern part of Akkad whose name is known as the land of black headed people.By dividing day and night into 12 hour period ,hours into 60 minutes and minute into 60 seconds they invented time.The first writing was developed by sumerians.By using simple pictures they record their language.Sumerian life has a feature of book keeping.It has detailed records on clay tablets,taxes.Sumerians were traders,sailos and farmers.They built dwellings with new technology They used clay for bricks and tablets.They used pictograph for recording food supplies.They used designed complex systems for canals and invented first two wheeled chariot.

There are two groups of popoulation sumerian and semites.Isolated language with historical evidence was spoken by sumerians.The southern part of Iraq which is a delta was occupied them.The semi nomadic people are known as semites spoke semitic language and lived in northern area moved to Mesopotamia consisting of pre existing population.After absorbing this population they followed western civilization culture.By inhabiting Mesopotamia sumerians were first ethnic group.sumerians were not semitic as they cannot speak semitic language .They were not Tibetan,Indianand Iranian and African.
