What are the causes of terrorism? What efforts is the U.S. government making to prevent and control the spread of domestic terrorism and international terrorism? What do you think should be done that is not being done presently to help stop terrorism? ​

It is important to address the root causes of terrorism. The atom to this big matter lies in prosyletyzation of children at a very young age, children's mind is like an empty slate and will mostly register what it is made to, if a child believes in what he/she does, it is highly unlikely that they will ever have a second opinion over the havoc that they are causing to the world. Recent studies have shown that hate can be a highly understandable and highly motivating factor and be it wrong, they do start to believe in having a sense of ambition or purpose to their lives from a very young age. As framed correctly in the question, terrorism can be of two kinds, domestic as well international. Domestic terrorism is when homegrown exrtremists turn on their own nation, international groups are the ones formed from all parts of the world, al- qaeda, ISIS etc. In the United States, the responsibility of handling terrorism largely lies in the hands of Homeland Security. They carry out many functions that include from fighting back the nuisance created by them as well as creating awareness for people by holding programs. US Treasury Department is responsible for providing many leads and fighting back terrorism. They have done so succesfully on multiple occasions. the U.S. Treasury Department issues subpoenas to the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) – a Belgium-based company with U.S. offices that operates a worldwide messaging system used to transmit financial transaction information – seeking information on suspected international terrorists or their networks. RAND addresses national security and critical infrastructure needs through objective research that helps government agencies prevent and mitigate terrorist activities and improves disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. I feel that immigration policies for entering the US should be revised and monitored better. Recruitment in the army should rise as well as more awareness should be spread amongst citizens to make them feel safer in their own country.
