In pea plants, purple flower color is dominant over white. If one sees a purple pea plant and has no prior knowledge of its ancestry, what can be said its genotype?
A. It is pp
B. It is Pp
C. It is PP
D. It is either PP or Pp
Answer ------ (D) IT CAN BE EITHER PP OR Pp
IN THE PEA PLANT WHEN THERE IS A DOMINANCE OF THE PURPLE FLOWER OVER THE WHITE FLOWER THEN WHEN WE CROSS THIS MONOHYBRID CROSS WE WILL GET THIS RESULTS.
In this case, we will be getting all the Pp allele in the F1 cross that will be purple phenotypically and when we will go for the F2 cross we will see the 1:2:1 ratio that will be PP: Pp: pp in the ratio 1:2:1 where the PP and Pp will be the purple due to the dominance of the purple over white and only one will be white which will make the phenotypical ratio be 3:1
SO if anyone sees the purple color flower and has no knowledge of the ancestry then the possible genotype in that case be either Pp or PP both.
SO the answer is D.
