What would make Watsons theory more usable or applicable to practice?
It is more applicable to nursing practice as it defines nursing as the process of human-to-human caring which consists of four basic concepts: healing processes, interpersonal maintenance of relationship, the caring moment, and awareness of healing. Jean Watson theory of transpersonal caring defines the outcome of nursing activity in regard to humanistic aspects of life. The theory signifies that love is the most important healing source in nursing care. Nursing actions directed to understanding the relationship between health, illness, and human behaviour. The nursing process outlined in Watson’s model contains the same steps as the scientific research process includes assessment, plan, intervention and evaluation. Watson theory designed around caring process, assisting the clients in attaining or maintaining health or in dying peacefully. Caring represents all the factors the nurse used to deliver health care to the client. The caring process requires that the nurse be knowledgeable about human behaviour and human responses to actual and potential health problems, individual needs , how to respond to others and strength and limitations of the client and family as well as those of the nurse. In addition the nurse comforts and offers compassion and empathy to clients and their families.
