What does the term “genetic recombination” mean?
What is the difference between Dominant and Recessive inherited disorders?
Why are males more vulnerable to Sex-linked Recessive disorders?
Genetic recombination is the exchange of genetc material between different organisms.recombination occurs when two molecules of DNA exchange small pieces of their genetic material with each other. In eucryotes ,it means the pairing of homologous chromosomes. The ofsprings carry the recombinant chromosomes with novel characteristics.we can see the genetic recombination in procaryotes as well as eucaryotes. It occurs in meiosis.the genetic recombination increases the genetic diversity in sexually reproducing organisms.
Human have cells with 46 chromosoms, 2 sex chromosomes and 22 pairs autosomal chromosomes.
In dominant disorder the affected person has one copy of a mutant gene and other normal gene on a pair of autosomal chromosomes...Here only one abnormal gene will produce a dominant heriditary diorder.EG polycystic kidney disease.
here disorder is dominant and healthy is recessivfather dominant ,mother dominant ..child is homozygous dominant (HH)..and have the disorder , early death may happen.
father dominant ,mother recessive ,child heterozygous Hh (disorder)
In recessive disorder two copies of the abnormal gene are present.eg /; cystic fibrosis,Albinism.A healthy dominant and disorder recessive.
If the child inherit a dominant gene fom father and ad dominant gene from mother ,the child is healthy HH(homozygous dominant
if the child inherit a dominat gene from father and recessive gene from mother ,the child is carrier Hh
If child is homozygous ressesive ( disorder)
