Answer: Benztropine is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease or involuntary movements due to the side effects of certain psychiatric drugs.
Pharmacological action: Benzatropine partially blocks cholinergic activity in the basal ganglia and has also been shown to increase the availability of dopamine by blocking its reuptake and storage in central sites, and as a result, increasing dopaminergic activity.
Therapeutic use: used as an adjunct treatment in the therapy of all forms of Parkinsonism.
Complications:
Medical administration: It is taken orally.
Precaution: Drugs that decrease cholinergic transmission may impair storage of new information into long-term memory and can also impair time perception.
