Rheumatoid arthritis is the chronic inflammation of the synovial membrane. It is an auto immune hence the treatment modalities are to reduce the severity of the condition. There are three generic categories of drugs given to the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
1. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) (Aspirin)
NSAIDS is used for reduce the inflammation between the joints there by reducing the Pain. This category of drug is mainly used for symptomatic relief and
2. Corticosteroids (Prednisolone)
These types of drugs have both anti-inflammatory effect as well as immune-regulatory effect
3. Disease modifying anti rheumatic drug (DMARs)
The most effective category of drug prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis. Only these drugs have shown to reduce or alter the disease course.Ex Methotrexate.This drug has clearly shown to reduce the complication of the rheumatoid arthritis
