Antithrombotic drugs:
1.Pharmacological action: antithrombotic medicine inhibits platelet function directly, or via thrombin inhibition, by inhibiting platelet activation and fibrin formation.
2 Theraputic use of antithrombotics: for the prevention and treatment of arterial and venous thrombosis, thrombiembolic disease.
3.complications: antithrombotic medications are associated with excess hematuria related complications.
4. Medication administration- injected subcuteneously in fixed doses.
5.contraidications of antithrombotics - uncontrolled bleeding, active ulcer disease, severe liver or kidney disease, recent brain, eye, spinal surgery, uncontrolled hypertension.
6. Nursing interventions- as there is increased risk of bleeding. Therefore, assess for dizziness, weakness, severe headache, blood in urine, nose bleeds, any unusual bleeding or bruising.
Encourage use of soft toothbrush to avoid excessive trauma to gums.
Monitor platelet count periodically
