1. SINEMET
- Generic name: Carbidopa levodopa
- Category class: Levodopa- Central
nervous system agent, Carbidopa-decarboxylase
inhibitor
- Expected pharmacological action :Levodopa is
converted to dopamine in the brain while carbidopa inhibits the
breakdown of levodopa.
- Complication: Depression,
- confusion, nausea, vomitting,dizziness, insomnia,
uncontrolled movements
- Contraindication: Hypersensitivity, pregnancy,
lactation, history of melanoma, mental disorders
- Interaction:Sinemet may interact with a wide range of
drugs. So tell your doctor about the medicine taking ,if
any.
- Medicine administration: Sinemet can be given 3- 4
times a day through oral route.
- Evaluation of medication effectiveness:Sinemet starts
it's pharmachological actions in 30 minutes and it last for 3 to 5
hours.
- Therapeutic use:Sinemet is generally used for the
treatment of Parkinson disease. Parkinson is a disease which is
causes by low dopamine level in brain. This medication reduces the
signs and symptoms of Parkinson disease.
- Nursing intervention:Before administration of sinemet
,a nurse should assess for any contraindication. Monitor vital
signs and and take physical examination of the patient. Check for
any complications.
- Client education:Educate the patient and family members
about the dosage, timings, sideeffects and contraindications of the
drug.
