A supervisor's annual performance rating on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest) for each of 20 employees. This is an example of what scale of measurement?

Expert Solution

Hello Sir/ Mam

THE CORRECT ANSWER IS ORDINAL SCALE OF MEASUREMENT.

There are 4 scales of measurement :

  1. Nominal : Used for unique identification of an item.
  2. Ordinal : Used to indicate the relative positions of objects but not the magnitude or difference.
  3. Interval : Used to indicate difference between items.
  4. Ratio : Has an absolute zero and ratios are compared here.

Now, as in question, Ratings on a scale of 1 to 10 are :

  1. Not just merely identification as 2 rating is better than 1 and so on.
  2. Indicates relative position(ranks) as 2 is better than 1 and 3 is better than 2 and also better than 1 and so on.
  3. Doesn't indicate difference as we can't say that the rating 2 is as much better than rating 1 as rating 3 is better than 2.
  4. 0 rating doesn't imply absence of rating.

Hence, it is ordinal.

I hope this solves your doubt.

Do give a thumbs up if you find this helpful.
