which has the highest and lowest EN [ Cl, P, Br]
Solution-
Electronegativity (EN)- Electronegativity is the tendency of an atom or group to attract electrons towards itself. It is denoted by symbol “X” in periodic table. Electronegativity of atom is affected by atomic number and valance electron from the charged nucleus.
Generally for electronegativity calculation Pauling electronegativity method is used.
In the above case electronegativity of Cl. P and Br is as follows
Atom Cl P Br
Electronegativity 3.16 2.19 2.96
Electronegativity order is as follows
Cl > Br > p
Chlorine (Cl) has Highest electronegativity = 3.16
Phosphorous (P) has lowest electronegativity = 2.19
