  1. If bandwidth is the difference between the highest and lowest signals of a transmission, then this means that a signal with the lowest frequency of 10KHz and an upper frequency of 5MHz, has a bandwidth of _____KHz.

  2. If a data signal bit rate is 5kbps, then at Harmonic 1 we would have a value of ______ Hz, at Harmonic 3 we would have a value of _____Hz, and at Harmonic 5 wed would have a value of ____ Hz.

  3. The critical angle of a light beam in a fiber optic cable, is a property of the substance, and its value differs from one substance to another. True or False?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.) If bandwidth is the difference between the highest and lowest signals of a transmission, then this means that a signal with the lowest frequency of 10KHz and an upper frequency of 5MHz, has a bandwidth of 4990   KHz.

Explanation-

As Bandwidth = upper frequency - lower frequency

= 5 MHz - 10 KHz

= 5*1000 KHz - 10 KHz

= 4990 KHz

2.) If a data signal bit rate is 5kbps, then at Harmonic 1 we would have a value of 625   Hz, at Harmonic 3 we would have a value of 1875  Hz, and at Harmonic 5 wed would have a value of 3125   Hz.

Explanation-

As frequency at 1st Harmonic = bit rate / 8

= 5* 1000 bps / 8

= 625 Hz

Frequency at 3rd Harmonic = 3 * 625 Hz = 1875 Hz

Frequency at 5th Harmonic = 5 * 625 Hz = 3125 Hz

3.) The critical angle of a light beam in a fiber optic cable, is a property of the substance, and its value differs from one substance to another. True or False?

Ans - True

Explanation - Critical angle of different substances are different and unique because light beam can incident at any angle while travelling from optically more dense medium to less dense medium.
