The impact of computerized provider order entry systems (CPOE) on the clinical workflow:
The computerized provider order entry systems (CPOE) are reffered to the process of entering, sending, give medical related information and treatment instructions through computer rather than paper, mobile or fax etc. CPOE allow healthcare systems medication (drug use, dosage, when to administer etc), clinical laboratory reports electronically. It is recognised as one of the most valuable tools in the medical field to deliver medical facilities, services more effectively and efficiently.
Healthcare systems are complex systems with diverse work force (such as specialized and non specialized people, work areas, tools). In healthcare systems, frequent workforce interactions are necessary to trade-offs between multiple goals, preferences, values, incentives, and motivations in the course of care processes. These interactions necessary to have coordination in order to deliver safe and effective care for patients. Through CPOE, this coordination is possible.
CPOE allows health systems to structuring clinical resources, tasks, record data, performance evaluation, monitoring the system. These all facilities in CPOE improved the patient safety and reduced the errors.
