Schizophrenia is a neurological disorder caused by the dysfunction of Mesolimbic pathway.The mesolimbic pathway tends to transmit dopamin(a neurotransmitter) via ventral tegmental area located in the midbrain to the ventral straitum. This pathway is associated with reward giving cognition. An abnormal distribution of D2 receptors between the limbic region and the rest of the brain. A relatively excess of these receptors in the limbic region contributes towards the overstimulated thinking and hallucinations and an abnormal connection to the Wernickes area which comprehends languages but cannot produce it.

Affects:-

Can lead to extreme social isolation.Because often what such people say does not make sense.

Can lead to Major depressive diorder(MDD)

The inability to express on self might cause raised stress and cortisol levels which in long term might prove to be harmful.

Families and society are affected , such people might find it difficult to stick to their current employment or even might find it difficult to take care of themselves.
