In cucumbers, orange fruit color (R) is dominant over cream fruit color (r). A cucumber plant homozygous for orange fruit is crossed with a plant homozygous for cream fruit. The F1 are intercrossed to produce the F2.
Give the genotypes and phenotypes of the parents, the F1, and the F2.
Give the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring of a backcross between
the F1 and the orange-fruited parent.
Give the genotypes and phenotypes of a backcross between the F1 and the
cream-fruited parent.
R is dominant allele and r is recessive
So parent homozygous for orange fruit colour will be = RR
AND Parent homozygous for cream fruit colour will be = rr
In F1 generation phenotype of all will be = Orange fruit colour.
In F1 generation genotype of all will be Rr (hetrozygous).
In F2 generation :
Phenotype ----- 3 orange : 1 cream. Or 3 : 1
Genotype -------1 RR : 2 Rr : 1 rr. or 1: 2 : 1
In the backcross between F1 and orange fruited parent.
The offsprings will be :
Phenotype = All orange
Genotype = 2RR : 2Rr or 2:2
In a backcross between offspring in F1 and Cream fruited parent will be as above .
Phenotype = 2 Orange : 2 Cream. or 2 : 2
Genotype = 2 Rr : 2 rr. Or 2 : 2
