In humans, brown eye color (B) is dominant over blue (b) while right-handedness (R) is dominant over left-handedness (r). A brown-eyed, right-handed man marries a blue-eyed, right-handed woman. Their first child is blue-eyed and left-handed. List the genotypes of the parents.

Expert Solution

In humans, brown eye color (B) is dominant over blue (b) while right-handedness (R) is dominant over left-handedness (r). A brown-eyed, right-handed man marries a blue-eyed, right-handed woman. Their first child is blue-eyed and left-handed. List the genotypes of the parents.

Given that Brown eye is dominant over the blue eye and right-handedness over left-handedness

The possible genotype of the brown eye is BB and Bb

The possible genotype of right-handedness is RR and Rr.

The possible genotype of blue eye bb.

The possible genotype of left-handedness is rr.

Possible Genotypes of brown-eyed, right-handed man is BBRR, BbRR, BbRr, BBRr.

The possible genotype of blue-eyed, right-handed is bbRR and bbRr

.When we cross two heterozygous then only we get one the progeny which expresses recessive allele.

Since B is dominant over b, so man genotype of man could not be BB, as this genotype leads to progeny which have a brown color eye.

Since R is dominant over r, so man genotype of man could not be RR, as this genotype leads to progeny which are right-handedness

So possible genotype of man could be BbRr

The possible genotype of the woman is bbRr.
