Question 1
Yellow seed color is dominant to green seed color. A green seeded plant is crossed with a heterozygous plant. What phenotypic and genotypic ratios would you predict in the offspring? If I planted 200 of these offspring, how many would be green? How many would be yellow? Explain how you solved the problem.
Given ,: Yellow seed colour is dominant over green seed colour.
A green seaded plant is crossed with heterozygous plant.
Let ;
Allele Y = Yellow seed colour - dominant allele.
Allele y = green seed colour - recessive
Since we know that recessive trait is only expressed in homozygous condition.
Therefore , genotype of given green seeded plant = yy
And genotype of heterozygous plant= Yy
Let cross them :-
P1:- Yy. X. yy
F1:-
Gametes | Y | y |
y | Yy | yy |
y | Yy | yy |
Genotypic ratio : 2(Yy):2(yy)
Phenotypic ratio :- 2(Yellow seeded):2(green seeded)
If you planted 200 of this offspring then 100 would be Yellow seeded and 100 would be green seeded.
