Volta is an international manufacturer of electric cars, and plans for a worldwide launch of its cars in 2020. Firstly we need to understand what is intellectual property..According to the definition Intellectual property law deals with the rules for securing and enforcing legal rights to inventions, designs, and artistic works. Just as the law protects ownership of personal property and real estate, so too does it protect the exclusive control of intangible assets.
Now we need to know what will be considered as intellectual property
Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions; literary and artistic works; and symbols, names and images used in commerce. Intellectual property is divided into two categories: Industrial Property includes patents for inventions, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications.
According to the question,Volta wants to specifically patent its first in the world and novel clean energy engine,which according to the definition and categorisation is correct and possible.
It will come under the category Utility patents which is for tangible inventions, such as machines, devices, and composite materials, as well as new and useful processes.
Now coming to how Volta can specifically patent its clean energy engine
The first step is filing of a patent application.
