The term "looking glass self" was coined Charles Horton Cooley. Looking glass self means people in our close surrounding or be the people with whom we maximum interact serve as " mirror" that reflect image of ourselves. In other words we see ourselves in the way we imagine and believe others percieve us. This occurs in three stages:
The two concepts that develops in youth regarding the looking glass self is her/his :
Self identity
Self Concept
Based on the reflection of the others evaluation and responses to the interaction with others a youth develops his/ her Self identity or Self image.
Based on the understanding of how a youth is perceived by others he/ she develops a Self Concept .This self concept is positive when the youth interprets that the people around him/ her perceives them to have positive qualities ,and a negative self concept develop when the understanding of others interpretation himself/herself is taken as negative.
