Explain how the three concepts of self develop during the first 2 years
There are basically three aspects/concepts of self. These are self image, self esteem and ideal self. Self concept does not have a rigid nature. It can not be defined in concrete terms. Identification of self is an active process. It is dynamic in nature.
Children basically touch their faces in early phases of their lives. They touch their noses and ears. They also kick objects lying in their vicinity. They also try to grab those objects and feel them. They also notice the expressions of others in response to their own actions.
They try to set a link between these actions and reactions. They also try to label things in terms of this and that. They keep on noticing various aspects by making physical touch and by noticing various expressions. By doing all the above mentioned activities they develop a sense of self.
They also take care of perspectives of others. They identify the activities which can be linked to their own identity. They develop their own categorical self by doing all the above mentioned stuff.
