20. Why is a sexual life cycle preferred by the majority of species on the planet. What do the terms haploid, diploid, gamete, somatic mean?

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANSWER - SEXUAL REPRODUCTION is the process done by majority of species on planet including humans , animals, lower animals other phyllum and some insects and bacterias.

It is most preferrable and priored in nature bceause of the variablity and adaptablity to change in environment.

when any species reproduce sexually theres a varation of the characters in them during the offspring formation and this gives the new variablties and character to the nature.

when gemete fuses and forms a product random variations are formed and they are safe in change in environment too.

In sexual reproduction there is a fusion of two gaemete which provides a great genetic diversity and good new characters due to the combination of genes while in asexual reproduction only a single parent is involved so identical offspring comes with no genetic variation.

for the life to go on the earth genetic diversity is a most important character with variation in characters in progeny.

and progeny formed shows the mixed characters of both the parents and some new characters also due to fusion and dominancy of any recessive character; the process of meosis cell division and cross linking occurs in them.

The new progeny is formed shows the capabilty of environment adaptation better and they further creates a genetic diversity in there progeny.

And for this purpose only sexual reproduction is more preferred in this planet.

the number of set of chromosomes present in the nucleous of cell defines the pleoidy.

Haploid is the single set of chromosomes which are present in the human sexual cells and haploid denotes (N) and these haploid cells are called as gamete in the human.

single set of chromosomes present in the reproductive cells called as gamete example is sperm and ovum ; these are regarded as gemete.

and these are produced by the meiosis.

Diploid is the paired set of chromosomes present in the nucleous of the cell , this diploid are (2N) present in the other cells of the human body other than reproductive cells that are also called somatic cells.

examples skin cells , bloodcells , nerve cells etc and they are produced by mitosis.
