The basic differences between
Article of Confederation and the U.S Constitution are as
following:
- The legislature in Article of
Confederation was unicameral, called Congress whereas, in the U.S
Constitution it is bicameral, also called Congress, but, divided
into the House of Representatives and the Senate.
- The members of Congress in the
Article of Confederation was betweentwo and seven members per
state. Whereas, in the U.S Constitution it is two Senators per
state, representatives allocated according to population of each
state.
- Voting in Congress in the Article
of Confederation was one vote per state. Whereas, in the U. S
Constitution it is one vote per Representative or Senator.
- All the members in Article of
Confederation were appointed by state legislatures in the manner
each state legislature directed. Whereas, in the U.S Constitution
representatives were elected by popular vote,and Senators were
appointed by state legislatures.
- The term of Articles was one year.
Wheras, it is two years for Representatives, and six for Senators
in the U.S Constitution
- Chair of legislature in Article of
Confederation was the President of Congress. Whereas, in the U.S
Constitution it is Speaker in the of the House of Representatives,
Vice President is President in the of the Senate.
