Policymaking and politics are messy businesses. How do you think the policymaking models we reviewed fit the policymaking process? Where do they fall short and where do they hit the mark? Please provide an example.
Policies are viably critical to an economy and for its structural and sustained development. The Government is responsible for taking all critical policy decisions that impact the citizens and the nation as a whole. However, this policy decision making is not a task that can be achieved with lesser complexity. Policy making involves decisions which pertain to the economic upliftment of the common people, and if decisions are taken without proper research and structural planning, a policy decision may lead to mayhem in the society. There have been many instances where many policies implemented by the Government had to be withdrawn on the ground of revolt from the common people or a negative economic impact.
Various types of policy decisions pertain to the functionality of the Government such as Regulatory policy, substantive policy, distributive policy, capitalization policy, re-distributive policy, technical policy, constituent policy etc. While all these policies aim to increase the overall development of the common people and their sustainability, it has been found that very less of them have been successful. The core reason pertaining to their failure, is the lack of proper conglomeration of the various policies. When all the policies are aimed to public development and the public being at the center of all key policy decisions, all policy decisions must be interlinked by variables which define how one policy relates or connects to another. When the policies do not inter-relate or have a common ground, it is then, when the policies start to intervene each other’s diaspora and it effects the common agenda of sustainable economic development for all. Moreover, all policies should be regulated by a common central agency, which must keep an eye on the perforce and regulation of each public policy. This is highly critical because, if there are too many agencies proliferating too many policies and have no idea of what the other policy decision is or how it will impact other policies, all the key policy decisions bump in to each-other. Therefore, it is of out most importance that the common agenda of the people are taken in to account, the policies are conglomerated to each other, and a regulatory body must be constituted for the overall upkeep and proper implementation of the key policy decisions.
