Describe a situation in which you had to use your communication skills in presenting complex information. How did you determine whether your message was received?

Situation:While dealing with an aggressive patient.

An elderly male patient was not ready to cooperate with the therapy and adhere to the prescribed medications.He was adamant about understanding the absolute need for the procedure or medication that he was supposed to have(You can specify any particular procedure or medication,if needed)

In this situation,as a nurse,I used my active listening skills and verbal persuasiveness in understanding the concerns and problems of the patient.Regardless of his uncoopertiveness,I was able to extend my compassion and symapthy for the patient.Since the patient was not ready to adhere to the treatment without understanding the need for it,I used some visual aids(pamphlets or electronic media,mention any) to present the complex information and make it clear for him. Finally,I was able to influence his attitudes and beliefs regarding the treatment with my communication skills and the patient was reassured.So overall,my verbal as well as well as non-verbal communication skills resolved this problem.

I determined the proper delivery of my message by routinely monitoring the adherence of the patient to the treatment.He was never reluctant again and successfully completed the therapy.
