What do you think it was like on the Lewis and Clark Expedition? Would you have liked to go along with them?
The expedition led by Lewis and Clark began in May 1804 and ended in September 1806. It was the first expedition to cross the western part of US. Selected army volunteers accompanied them. The then ruling president Thomas Jefferson wanted to map the newly acquired territory.
I am sure it was a quest for knowledge when Lewis and Clark tried to explore the region and study its plants, animals, life and geography. Its main emphasis was also to take control of the region before Britishers and Europeans were able to do so. They wanted to establish trade with local American tribes. Both of them were able to map and have cordial relationships with the heads of the Indian tribes so as to map the area and learn extensively about the flora and fauna.
I would have liked to go along with them, just to get first hand knowledge of how did they deal cordially with the tribesmen, how did they manage to study the local unexplored variety and ensure its economical use. Also how did they convince the president that the expedition was of great importance and how the new resources could be used economically.
