If i got an opportunity to work in a hospital as a health care manager my main objectives i used to focus in IT planning is as follows
i) Mobile and Remote assess to patient information
II) Improve interdepartmental and interdepartmental communication
III) Quick patient admission and discharge process
IV) Frequent incident reporting and correction
V) Reduce the duplication of imaging studies, diagnostic studies and History taking.
VI) Increased adoptation of screening programs and preventive health measures.
To acheive this objective i will develop a appilication with the help of IT team installed in all patients mobiles and staff computers
i) Mobile and Remote assess to patient information
The current generation patients are more aware about there health and knowledge of there own health. For this they can get a health information through various websites, news papers and other means. But If there is facility to create an appilication in there mobiles they can assess the health details of them such as next follow up visit, assessing the results of diagnostic studies, emergency managment if any concern arise which will reduce the time wastage in transportation unnecessarily.
II) Improve interdepartmental and interdepartmental communication
In the hospital ii will introduce well developed software with the ability to document and assessed by all concerned department it will help in avoiding unnecessary conflicts between the department and reduce the time taken in all aspects of care. In side the department it will be useful for the nurses during the time of hand over and shift changes.
III) Quick patient admission and discharge process
Time consumption during the time of admission to the inpatient department is major issue in hospital. I will reduce this problem through a common mobile appilication to fill the data such as name, age, sex, complaints of the patient, comorbid illness, distance of the patient from hospital, and all other common enquiry to facilitate an appointment with the physician, arranging the emergency department or Intensive care unit if need arises, and arranging the rooms for admission. This information can be verified later through the reception department. In case of discharge the billing, discharge summaries are prepared and stored in the data base based on the prognosis of the patient. Through the single button, automatically generate the necessary information on the day of discharge will be developed.
IV) Frequent incident reporting and correction
The unexpected and unusual incidents such as patient fall, needle stick injury, medication error, nosocomial infection, etc is recorded and reported on time to the particular quality control team to take necessary action such training and demonstration to prevent further occurance of the same type. This will help in the attraction of many patients towards the hospital with the positive hope.
V) Reduce the duplication of imaging studies, diagnostic studies and History taking.
Duplication of tests will affect the patient in various means such as physical and emotional stress along with financial burden to the patient and the family members. It too affect the reputation of the hospital in several aspects. To avoid this all patient diagnostic tests are properly documented and reported to the concern personnel at the right time with the implementation of a notification software before ordering the particular test.
VI) Increased adoptation of screening programs and preventive health measures.
'Prevention is better than cure'
Most of the diseases if diagnosed in a early stages will be cured such as breast cancer, systemic infections and can be controlled such as diabetes mellitus, Hypertension. So i will recommend a screening tests to the patients with high risk in acquiring certain disease as well as to the patient attenders. All the patients with the particular disease will be given specific education regarding treatment, nutritional, promotive, rehabilitative and preventive measures to know the signs of the same disease or comorbid illness in near future. So that the patient can reach the hospital back at the right time with out delay.
