Explain the American Assoc of Nursing code of ethics Benefience, nonmalfience, justice, fidelity, autonomy and paternalism in regard to ethical issues seen in Rebecca Skloot's The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks?
Beneficence:- is an ethical principle that addresses the idea that a nurse's actions should promote good. Doing good is thought of as doing what is best for the patient.
Nonmaleficence:- Non maleficence means to " do no harm". Physicians must refrain from providing inffective treatments or acting with malice towards patients.
Justice:- is fourth ethical principal it means giving each person or group what he/she or they ara due. It can be "measured" in term of fairness, equality need the other criterion that is material to justice decision.
Fidelity:- this principle stands for many things, including dedication, loyality, truthfullness, advocacy & fairness to patients.
Nurses are encourages to keep their commitments, based on their virtue of caring.
eg. a patient request that a nurse not reveal his terminal diagnosis to his family.
Autonomy:- can be defined as the ability of the person to make his or her own desicions.
Paternalism:- practices, Wherein providers confer treatment or service upon a person or persons without their consent, ostensibly by the reason of their limited autonomy or dimnished capacity, widespread in healthcare & in societies around the world.
