AUTONOMY ETHICS IN NURSING

The ethical principles and concepts are important in nursing profession as they have to adhere to those principles to distribute fair care to all the patients.There are mainly seven ethics for nurses like justice,beneficence,nonmaleficence,accountability,fidelity,autonomy,and veracity.

The word autonomy comes from Greek word which means "self-rule".Autonomy in nursing is reffered as the right of patient to make independent decisions, in other words nurse should provide required or adequate informations to patients to make decisions about their medical care.Autonomy involves the right of self independence and self determination of the patient about his/her medical care and decisions.The nurse should respect the patients individuality and uniqueness and their right to choose their treatment care goals.

A nurse who follow the code of autonomy in her profession respect her client's right to make decision with adequate knowledge provided to the client.
