What is the concept of the "Melting Pot ' in America? Does it actually exist in America? Why do some call it "The American Salad"?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans: The USA is called 'melting pot' because with time, generations of immigrants have melted together, they have abandoned their culture to become assimilated into American  society. In melting pot there is no cltural diversity and differences are not respected. It is a metaphor for heterogenous society becoming more homogeneous which implies that different elements melting together It hasbecomea symbolof radicalism and liberal vision of American society.

Yes it exists in America; because there people from different cultures and religions like Africans, Amercans, Italians, Chinese etc have become together and despite their differences they manage to co- exist and live together in one- nation. Yes it exists because it was used a fusion of cultures, ethnicities, cultures in 1908 to describe different cultural mix and it has happened in America over the period of years.

Some people call it American Salad because they think that multicultural society can integrate with different cultures while maintaing the separate identities; The America is evolving into Salad Bowl because of the its openess to treat the immigrants with more relaxed relaxations and more less norms; because of the theory that now Americans are becoming more open towards other cultures and immigrants. Some people think that America is becoming and welcoming people of different cultures and enthnicities and they are becoming the bowl of different cultures.
