The Department of State acts as an advisory to the President and also leads the nation in foreign policy issues. It also represents States at the United Nation and, negotiates treaties and agreements with foreign entities.

The mission of US - DOS as stated by the U.S. Department of State is "The U.S. Department of State leads America’s foreign policy through diplomacy, advocacy, and assistance by advancing the interests of the American people, their safety and economic prosperity."

U.S. Department of State has bound itself to its mission and is working towards the goal of international cooperation and peaceful coexistence. For this, it roots its relationships with countries in common values, including the rule of law, respect for diversity, and democratic government across countries.

U.S. Department of State works towards promoting global security, stability, and economic prosperity through trade, investment, and connectivity and is being successful in its mission to achieve its vision. It supports not only countries but the regions to achieve peace, stability, and growing prosperity.

It maintains diplomatic relations with foreign governments, Negotiate treaties with them, in shadow of which it protects the interests of Americans who are traveling or conducting business abroad. It has proven itself to be effective in carrying out its mission.
