In this fastly growing world ,people compete for money and for better jobs .In the midst of this long run,we forget our health which deteriorates faster due to eating unhealthy junk foods and leading sedentery lifestyles.Multivitamins and mineral supplements has always been a favourite which used to fill the nutritional gap. This essay will deal with Michael , a basket ball player who maintained his body weight through normal diet routine, happens to attend a nutrition classs whereby decides to takes multivitamin and mineral supplements for the sake of insurance to his future health.
From my perspective,Michael doesnt need any additional vitamin supplements as he is healthy and fit.But it would definitely be good for someone who skips the meals regularly or having wide nutritional deficiencies .There are lots of people who take this supplements as an insurance against future deficiencies. But it is a fact that is not a very good substitute for the home cooked nutritious meals or the fresh fruits and organic vegetables that we consume.
There are lots of controversies regarding the intake of supplements and weight gain.Recently in a research published in British Journal of Nutrition ,it is found that men who regulary takes supplements has a tendency to loose weight and body mass index. So in the case of Michael it could have serious implications on his weight. The supplements generally have a tendency to lower the apetite resulting in anorexia. So it would be better if Michael doesnt take multivitamins, since he has considerable physical stamina and strength by taking a normal diet.
While selecting a particular supplement Michael must know whether it is appropriate for his body as well for his age.He should know what he eats, and try to balance it with normal diet. There are some supplements which contain harmful ingredients which is not necessary for the body.Supplements dont have rigorous testing like drugs,so inorder to ensure safety use the supplements from a reliable manufacturer.
In concluding,it is now upto Michael to decide whether he should take the supplements or not.
