Biogen is an American multinational biotechnology company in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US known for discovery, development and delivery of therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative, hematologic and autoimmune conditions worldwide. It is a public welfare company and it's traded as NASDAQ - 100 component, S&P - 100 component etc. It was founded in 1978 by prominent biologist Kenneth Murray, Philip Allen sharp, Walter Gilbert, Heinz Schiller and Charles Weiss man in Geneva. Headquarters is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US.
The company's key people, chairman Mr. Strips papadopoulos with CEO Mr. Michel vounatsos. The products offered by the company are approved, scones, eloctac, fampyre, Gazyva, plegridy, rituxan, tecfidera, tysabri And spinraza.
In 2003, biogen merged with San Diego, California based IDEC pharmaceuticals and adopted the name Biogen IDEC. After this collaboration it became the third largest biotechnology company in the world. In May 2006, it announced to acquire a cancer specialist and later consolidating ownership of fumaderm and BGTZ an oral fumarate, which is being studied for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and psoriasis. In January 2007, the company made another announcement that it would acquire subsonic pharmaceutical for gaining it's lead product for hemophilia B and technology for developing inhalable treatment.
In May 2016, the company announced it will spin off it's hemophilia drug business into a public company, hence would be called Bioverativ. The company has a revenue of US $ 12.274 billion with a net income of US $ 2.539 billion. In December 2017 the company had approximately 7300 employees working for them.
