4. Sally is 10 months old and weighed 18 lbs. last week. Today her weight is 17 lbs 6 oz. Mom says she has only had one wet diaper this day, so far it is 3pm. She has been vomiting since this morning and has diarrhea since yesterday morning. She can not keep her formula down and Mom was not sure if she should give her water.

DEHYDRATION IN INFANTS
Dehydration is the condition where there is not enough blood in the body. Baby's body is made up of approximately 75 percentage water. Each day losses fluid through urination,bowel moments,crying and breathing.
DEHYDRATION DUE TO VOMITING AND DIARRHOEA:
-When infant vomiting or diarrhoea can loss large amount of salt and water from their bodies and It can become dehydrated very quickly.
-Dehydration can be very dangerous especially for babies and toddlers.Children can even die if they are not treated.
-Parched,dry mouth,fewer tears when crying, sunken soft spot of the head in an infant.stool will be loose if dehydration is caused by diarrhea. If dehydration is due to vomiting, there will be decrease bowel moments.

It is a hypertonic type of dehydration.
b)
Hypertonic dehydration occur when there is an imbalance of water and salt in our body. Losing too much water while keeping too much salt in the fluid outside the cells causes hypertonic dehydration.

SYMPTOMS:
-Place less than usual.
-Parched,dry mouth.
-Fewer tears when crying.
-Sunken soft spot on the head in an infant.
-Stools will be lose,if dehydration is caused by diarrhoea.
-Sunken eyes.
-Discoloured hands and feet.
-Urinate only one or two times per day.

-Dehydration caused by diary is one of the biggest single killers of children in the modern World. Diarrhoea itself is one of the major cause of Nutrition loss and poor growth.
-In this case, the child has severe stage of dehydration. It can be treated with administration of fluid via intravenous therapy.

PLAN FOR REHYDRATE
-Dehydration must be treated by replenishing the fluid level in the body. This can be done by consuming clear fluid such as water,clear broths,frozen water,ice pops,etc..
-Intravenous fluids is also required to rehydrate.underlying condition that are causing hydration should be treated with appropriate medication.
prevention:
-Prevention is really the most important treatment of dehydration. Consuming plenty of fluids and food that give high water content should be enough for most people to prevent dehydration.
