answer-

Unions served a useful purpose in the past but have outlived their usefulness.

The main objective of Unions is to fight for rights of workers at workplace. This worked in the past but now Unions have outlibed thier usefulness because Unions term just remain a term where political interference is increasing and there are laws like employment discrimination laws, pay equity laws, Titile vii laws which help employees and workers to fight against workplace unfairness for themselves.

In 2018, just 10.5% of American workers were members of unions, according to recently released data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s is the lowest rate of membership since the bureau began collecting statistics in the early 1980s. Most analyses of pre-1980s union membership suggest it was close to 30% in the 1940s and 1950s.

The overall decline of union membership is partly the result of the changing composition of jobs in the US. Healthcare, restaurant, and hospitality jobs are among the fastest growing and, historically, these industries that have not had high unionization rates. By contrast, manufacturing, a much more organized sector, has been losing jobs over the past few decades.

These days more than 25% of the nation's labor force works in firms with fewer than fifty employees and firms with fewer than fifty employees comprise more than 96% of all employer firms.

There has been trend in US people to be self employed and open their own small business which also contribute to this fact that unions have outlived thier usefulness. Working for others and fighting under unions bring less benefits as compared to have thier own small business in local areas.
