Describe each of the phases of mitosis and the important events taking place in each. Be sure to include when chromatin/chromosome number increases/decreases.
Mitosis or the equational division refers to the part of the cell cycle when replicated chromosomes are seperated into two new nuclei. This is preceded by the S stage of interphase ( during which DNA is replicated) often accompanied by cytokinesis. Mitosis results into two genetically identical daughter nuclei.
The phases of mitosis are namely prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase.
