Many have thought that if we don't have free will, then punishment and reward would not make sense. Do you agree with this? Why or why not? Would be good to do away with punishment? Why or why not? (Consider: Punishment can be used for retribution, i.e., as giving a person their just deserts, but it can also be used as a deterrent. Reward can be used to recognize a person's accomplishment because they deserve it, but it can also be used to motivate them to do certain things). Write at least one paragraph in your initial post
Yes, I agree with that, if we don't have free will in this world or in the people mind, to whom the punishment and reward would be given because everyone would be the same. Because everyone would be walking by the law/rule, which is same path for all. Punishment is given to the people who do not obey the rule, i.e. the one who do according to his/her will. Even reward also given to the person who is high quality from among others and use to motivate. If there is no free will everyone will be in the same level because everyone would be in the same way to live a life. There would be no failure nor winner without a free will. Because free will makes the world into several groups, it creates many kind of people.
In some situation, punishment is necessary because without a punishment how the world would be like. Anyone can do whatever they want and there would be no fear to do anything wether bad things or good things. Punishment is the thing which controls the world. Imagine if there is no police station in the society, how the society would be like. There would be out of control over all without the punishment. Punishment is also which stop or discouraged to do a bad thing in the society. So, punishment plays an important role in the society.
