About DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) :

All living organisms have DNA, which is short for deoxyribonucleic acid; it is basically the blueprint for everything that happens inside an organism’s cells. Overall, DNA tells an organism how to develop and function, and is so important that this complex compound is found in virtually every one of its cells.

Whether a human, rat, tomato or bacterium, each of its cells will have DNA inside of it . Each cell has an entire copy of the same set of instructions, and this set is called the genome. Scientists study DNA for many reasons: They can use DNA to make new medicines or genetically modify crops to be resistant to insects. They can solve who is a suspect of a crime.

Extraction of DNA from Straberries:

During a DNA extraction, When you added the salt and detergent mixture to the smashed strawberries, the detergent helped lyse (pop open) the strawberry cells, releasing the DNA into solution, whereas the salt helped create an environment where the different DNA strands could gather and clump. Then alcohol added to the solution causes the DNA to precipitate out. In this activity, strawberries will be used because each strawberry cell has eight copies of the genome, giving them a lot of DNA per cell

This is the protocol: 1.Take 750 μl of blood from each blood sample, and transfer it to new 1.5ml tube; 2. Mix 750 μl of blood with 1ml RBC lysis buffer, respectively (avoid stock contamination by not touching the walls of tube by pipette tip); 3. Centrifuge at 2300 rpm for 5 minutes; 4. Take out the liquid, keep the pellet; 5. Mix...

Write a short description of a person suffering from this disorder but do not name this disorder. Be creative! It’s up to your classmates to correctly identify the disorder when they reply and to ask a follow up question that will give them more information to correctly diagnose the disorder. I. Describe one DNA extraction method. In your description compare and contrast the method you chose with the other DNA extraction methods. Additionally, describe what types of forensic samples are better suited for this type of extraction and why. a)Given the three types of DNA techniques (STR, mtDNA, and Y-STRs) briefly compare and contrast all of them and in your opinion state why you believe one to be better than the other. YOU MUST SUPPORT YOUR ANSWER WITH AN EXAMPLE...

im the DNA extraction from a banana procedure it states: "Try to prevent the alcohol from mixing with the banana mixture." Subsequent steps also emphasize that you should "avoid any sudden disturbance" Why is this important? Consider what is present in the test tube and whag the purpose of these steps is. why is it important to keep the alcohol and banana mixture from mixing?
