Define the concepts of caste and meritocracy and identify several elements of each in U.S. society. Overall, in your opinion, how much do individual talent and effort matter in determining people’s social class position?
In America the concept of caste and meritocracy are identified which depends on several elements like colour of the people. more recently, the white nationalist richard Spencer has articulated a vision of white identity marked, caste like by timelessnessand hierarbhy. Take for example the controversial 1994 "The Bell Curve" thesis, which held that African-American and poor people have a lower IQ, thus linking American inequality to genetic difference.
Class, economic class, socio-economic class, social class. Each refers to how people are sorted into hierarchies in society, but there are, in fact, important differences among them. Economic class refers specifically to how one ranks relative to others in terms of income and wealth. simply put, we are sorted into groups by how much money we have. These groups are commonly understood as lower, middle, and upper "class" to refer to how people are stratified in society, they are most often reffering to this. In our society basically social class are described in "low", "working", "upper", and "high". when someone uses the word "classy" as a descriptor, they are naming certain behaviours and lifestyle, and framing them as superior to other. in the sense, social class is determined strongly by one's level of cultural capital.
