Calcium makes bones strong and hard and prevents them from breaking. The calcium present in the bones act as calcium reservoir for body requirements. Calcitonin is released when calcium is too high, PTH is released with the calcium is too low. The body maintains optimum levels of cakium in the blood at all times

If the dietary intake does not meet the calcium needs, then calcium is withdrawn from the bones in order to compensate for the same. This will in turn make the bones weaker and increases the risk of developing osteoporosis.
