Describe the last time that you or someone you saw conformed to the group around you/them. Determine how many of the factors that increase conformity that we discussed in Asch's line study were present in the situation

Solutions

Expert Solution

Conformity was observed in a group of children aged between 6-9 years. It was a play group of 7 children playing in their backyard. These children were close relatives, were brothers and sisters, and first cousins. They were playing a make believe game, the older child was the teacher, and ready were students. It was observed that as if they were planning for a school picnic, and the teacher child was taking suggestion from the students. What the first child suggested was been repeated by the others, and when any one gave any other suggestion, this line of pattern was disturbed, but they would agree for the majority. Thus, for the majority of times what the older children suggested initially was followed by the others, but if any body gave some other it would disturb their conformity, and the next child would give a different suggestion.

The factors that of Asch's line study that were present were:

  • Majority of the children conformed to the initial suggestion unless there was a different suggestion in between.
  • If a suggestion that dissented from the others came up, it would break their unanimity.
  • When the suggestions were bit tougher the children agreed to the older children's suggestion without any problem.
  • When the teacher child asked few children individually about their opinion after sometime when were already decided, they gave a different opinion than from what they gave in the class.
