Job based structure and person focused structure compare and contrast by SWOT.
Strength
Job based structure, an employee hired needs to perform the job efficiently. Only if the job is performed well, they can receive proper compensation. While in Person based structure, employee is paid as per knowledge skills and abilities and does not get paid as per the work done.
Evaluation can be done easily in job based structure as per the quality of the work done. But not in person based structure.
Hiring new employees for a job based structure is easier as the job requirements are known and general. But person based structure needs to find an employee with a specific or specialized skill set which is hard to find.
Weakness
Job based has weaknesses like giving more preference to the job over the employee. Person based structure rewards a person for what he is worth rather than based on the job's worth.
Job based structure does not require multitasking and do not offer flexibility. Skill based pay encourages employees to become multi skilled and hence more valuable to the company.
Opportunities
Job based structure has the employees working in a job who have gained expertise in that specific job. Thus there is opportunity to improve its production capacity by retaining existing employees rather than hiring new employees.
Skill based structure plans the career path of its employees. They want the employees to acquire more skills through constant training and therefore increase the value of their employees. Therefore they are popular in the market both from income and career progression aspects.
Threats
Job based structure hires employees for a particular job. In any case if the business fails, the experience acquired cannot be easily applied in a new organization because of a lack of multi skill development.
Skill based structure threats are when the skills acquired in the company are no longer useful in the market.
