a) A human resource department is the department responsible for handling each and everything related to the people of the organisation. Its functions includes:

  • Hiring of employees
  • Training of empoyees
  • Maintaining relation with the employees
  • Evaluating the performance of the employees
  • Maintaining complaince about the various labour laws
  • Handling internal disputes among the employees
  • Managing employee compensations and benefits

b) Performance evaluation/appraisal is a process carried out by Human resource departments in which the job performance of an employee is documented and later on analysed with respect to the set goals. This analysis is crucial for promotions or salary appraisals of an employee.

Advantages:

  • Employees are subjected to promotions and salary appraisals if they meet the evaluation standards
  • It give employees a motivation to achieve their set targets
  • It provide a structured process for an employee to clarify expectations and discuss issues with their manager.

Disadvantages:

  • If the evaluation is not done in a right form then it creates negative experiences
  • It can create stressful environments for the employees
