The focus in mentoring relationships is seeing progress in an individual through the experience of another. A mentoring relationship is based on seeking guidance and advice on important matters which can be personal or professional. Most individuals make better decisions with the help of their mentors and also it helps mitigate situations that involve risk.
A personal and professional mentor is different. The distinction between them is the nature of the decisions that individuals discuss with the mentors. With a personal mentor, the discussions include topics and subjects of one's life and how to move forward. The conversations are personal and it can be about relationships and other aspects that affect an individual's life. A professional mentor is someone who guides an individual in making the right decisions about their career and decisions related to their job. The conversations and discussion are focused on professional choices like job, investments and other related subjects.
