Describe the basic parts of an arrest report and the function of each. What issues might arise if an arrest record is inaccurate?
There are seven basic parts for an arrest report. They are charges, probable cause, officer action, victim statement, suspect statement, evidence, and damage.
Charges deal with the act done by the accused and the respective
penal codes applicable. Probable cause gives light to the origin of
the issue. Officer action shows various actions done by the police
to stop the activity by the accused leading to a subsequent arrest
due to a break of law. Victim and suspect statements are the angles
of viewing the issue from their perspective. Evidence is the proof
obtained from the scene confirming the truth behind the action
committed by the accused. Damage is the injury suffered by the
victim or any damage to property by the accused.
When arrest record is inaccurate leading to arresting of the wrong
person, it will deeply affect the life of the concerned wrong
person. He/she would find it extremely difficult in getting a job,
loan or housing due to inaccurate arrest record.
