What were the moral dilemmas faced by the doctors in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina?
Hurricane Katrina is one such natural disaster which has brought many lives to an end where the decision maker were the doctors in New Orleans in order to save sustainable life.
The moral dilemmas faced by the doctors where which patients has to be saved first.There was also a dilemma that critically ill patients after recovering from danger will survive or not. Whether to shift a morbid obese patient who will recover from illness, but during that period saving these type of patients will need more manpower and neglecting them, a dilemma to save a cancer or terminally ill patient or not.
What did they decide to do?
They had two option one to save the critically ill or serious patient and second one to save the healthy patient whose survival rate is higher.
The doctors finally made a decision to shift the healthy or better patient first than the most serious cases.This will improve the survival rate of the patients.
And do you believe they made the correct ethical choice? If not, what should’ve they done?
Yes, they made a correct ethical choice because under these tough circumstances and limited resources, manpower it was the best which could have been done.
