Juke joint or jook joint refers to the term that was used for the common establishment that offers dancing, music, drinking and gambling. It was operated in the southwest US by African American. The ten jukes are supposed to come from Gullah term jook which means rowdy or unorganized.
honky-tonk or honkatonk is referred to the bar that provides country music and entertainment for patrons. These bars are common in the southwest part of the US.
Juke Jointed was established mainly for the purpose of entertainment of African American people. On the other hand, white people were entertained in the honky tonk.
Basically, music was played by the jukebox in the juke joint. On the other hand in honky tonk music was played by mostly country artist.
