. What is public relations advertising and how is it different from commercial, sales-oriented advertising? Thoroughly explain and give examples of the three primary categories of PR advertising we discussed in class. Next, assume you are PR director for a corporation such as General Motors or IBM. How would you use PR advertising to support the goals of your organization?
Answer-) Public relations advertising is a type of advertising which is done to improve or enhance an organisation's brand image or reputation in the market. It is done basically to make good relations with the various stakeholders such as customers, government, media etc so that the company has a good name and people can trust the company. It is different from commercial , sales oriented advertising because this type of commercial advertisement is done to announce any new product or any new features of the existing product into the Market and ultimately the goal is to increase revenue by this type of advertising. Public relations advertisement 's motive is to build strong communication with various stakeholders and is not focused on the revenue. The goal is to achieve soceital goal rather than monetary goal.
Three primary categories of PR advertising are as follows -
1-) Relations with the Government - PR advertising strictly follows government regulations as government is the supreme authority and there by an organisation maintains good relations with the government by following all the tax policies and duties, consumer protection laws , employee protection laws etc so that Government can have a trust towrads the Organisation.
2-) Relations with the Offline and online media - An organisation also has to maintain good communication and relations with the media people whether its online or offline so that they dont dont print or post any content which is against an organisation which will lead to bad publicity.
3-) Relations with the general public - Companies do various social campaigns and media release to improve the image of the brand amongst the general public .
If I were the PR director or GM , to support the goals of the Organisation I would have organised many locations where General motors could build plants in village , thereby giving employment to the local people and Developing the economy. I would also have a fundraiser where the higher Management executives shall give a percentage of their salary to the poor people. This would have instill a sense of gratitude amongst customers for general motors and should have bought the cars out of social courtesy.
