Describe the QSEN competency safety and nursing interventions associated with safety.
The overall goal for the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project is to meet the challenge of preparing future nurses who will have the knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSAs) necessary to continuously improve the quality and safety of the healthcare systems within which they work.
There are 6 competencies in Quality and Safety Education for Nurses-
1.) Patient Centered Care
2.)Teamwork and Collaboration
3.)Evidence Based practice(EBP)
4.)Quality improvement (QI)
5.)Safety
6.)Imformatics
SAFETY-Minimizes risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.
Safety is important to minimise possible dangers to patient and providers with encouragement of near misses and good catches.
Safety involves identifying and practising best practice standards and procedures.
Nurses must promote a culture of safety.
Identify best practices that promote patient,community,and provider safety in the practice setting.
Methods to identify and prevent verbal,physical and psychological harm to patientsand staff.
Safety encourages nursing leadership and role models to develop and incorporate safety and principles.
Nursing interventions-
-Wrist bands
-Clutter free environment.
-Patient equipment
-"Time out"
-Medication reconciliation.
- Bed alarms.
- Hourly rounding
-SBARR(Situation, Background, Assessment,Recommendation and Response).
-Hand washing.
